The Art'otel Shoreditch.

Recently opened this is quite the building. Situated just off Old Street Roundabout, 5 minutes from the underground station and a fast 10 minute walk to Liverpool street where you can pick up the Elizabeth line. In the heart of trendy Shoreditch there are many eating spots within a few minutes and some of them are pretty amazing.

I had this on my list to try and when two nights popped up on Travelzoo at £318 including breakfast for 2 nights I grabbed it. With Travelzoo its prepayment and no cancellation but worth the risk.  You can find Travelzoo at https://www.travelzoo.com/uk/  I have found some pretty good deals here, but do your research and always check the hotel's website. It's currently free but I believe it's going to become a subscription service next year.  The cheapest B & B rate for January is around £230 a night on the hotel's website; I still think this represents good value.

The name suggests lots of Art and there are several of these hotels around the world in major cities. There is an amazing LED display as you take the escalator from the ground floor up to reception. It's worth popping in to see even if you are not staying.

As you can see it is very much a round building which makes for an interesting room layout, I have done a little video walk around, (these will get better with practice!) You can expect all the usual things in the room and a coffee machine. Really comfy beds as you would expect and very quiet. The view from the higher floors is great, though slightly marred by the position of the TV.

At present there is a ground floor cafe which is where we had breakfast. I liked the fact that it is table service with no buffet, some may not like this. Who really wants to be jumping up and down every few minutes to collect a mostly luke warm English Breakfast. Some nice items on the menu but weirdly no full English. I should have asked. Next time! On the first floor there is a bar which had a DJ playing chill chillout music on the night we were there. A nice venue.

A roof top restaurant is due to open next year and there is currently a gym on the top floor. Worth a look. There is a spa and pool in the basement.

We eat in the Llama Inn restaurant which is on the top floor of the Hoxton Hotel in Great Eastern street, 2 minutes walk. Peruvian menu and a really nice vibe, food was good thought it does not do so well on Tripadvisor. No complaints from us. London prices around £75 per head. Though we did have two bottles of wine, there were 4 of us!

8/10 for me. A good choice if you want to be in a trendy area with good links into soho/covent garden. 55 bus takes 10 minutes.
